TAKE A BITE OUT OF LYME

This year we learned that Avril Lavigne suffered from a serious case of Lyme disease that left her bedridden for five months. In 2012, Yolanda Foster took to twitter to announce that she was being treated for the same condition. The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star, and mother to Gigi and Bella Hadid, visited Germany last month, and has travelled to South Korea and Mexico, looking for a cure that will treat her chronic condition.

Now, recent headlines suggest that Ashley Olsen is the latest celebrity to contract the illness, which is spread to people through infected tick bites and results in symptoms including fever, fatigue, depression, and skin rashes.

These high profile cases have been increasing awareness about the serious nature of tick bites, reminding us that protection against insects serves a larger purpose than just avoiding the inevitable annoying itch we get from spending unprotected time outdoors. Just ask Gigi Hadid who supported her mom’s cause by spreading Lyme disease awareness to her 4.5 million instagram followers, warning that pervention is the the best cure for the illness.

With spring behind us, and summer upon us, tick and mosquito-borne diseases like Lyme disease and West Nile are a real threat. Luckily, there are many simple lifestyle changes you can make, and all-natural products you can try, that will make avoiding tick and mosquito bites easy for you, your family, and your pets.
